Humaira Afzal has been involved in community activism in Michigan and now Florida for over 20 years, with a focus on Progressive issues. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan. After beginning her career in academia, life events led her to switch to political activism and grassroots organizing. Currently, she serves as the Director of Precinct and Field Organizing for the Hillsborough County Democratic Party and has played an active role in organizing canvassing and other voter engagement efforts by the DPCTB.
In recent months, Humaira has been giving regular public comments in local government meetings, including the School Board, Tampa City Council, and the Board of County Commissioners. Her efforts have been aimed at encouraging more people to participate, speak out, and engage with community issues.
To unwind, she enjoys going on long bike rides and engaging in DIY projects involving power tools. She has a particular interest in making furniture from wood salvaged from construction site dumpsters. Humaira shares her life with her husband, Tariq, and they are proud parents of three adult children.
